Times They Are A-Changin’

Are you loving this fall weather??? I feel like someone is trying to rip my flip flops off (like baby Dash does here)!

Along with the change in weather (however fleeting it may be), things are changing here at Juxtapose Photography. What’s changing? Well, specifically, the Juxtapose Photography part. As soon as my BRAND NEW BLOG is ready (should be a couple of days), I will be debuting my company’s new direction under the name Kate Mefford Photography.

Why the change? I’m just ready to BE ME. After a couple of years of debating whether or not to do this, I just don’t want to be behind a company name anymore. I’m never expanding or hiring other photographers and I have no plans to change my boutique status. Plus, next summer marks my debut into gallery showings of my portfolio work (my work that does not involve weddings or babies), and that is a route I will definitely pursue. I have always been a “one and the same” kinda girl, so no matter which type of project I am working on, I will just be Kate Mefford. ME. Your photographer and your friend. An artist. A goofball. A free spirit. A girl who loves to shop at Anthropologie and beat boys in the college football pool.

I have so many fun things to show you on the new blog.

For the past MONTH, every.single.day., Millie has been asking if she would be going to school “in the morning”. And every time she asked, I had to say no. (Damn that late Labor Day!)

UNTIL…yesterday. I got to say YES. Thank sweet baby Jesus, this morning we got to pull out the Hello Kitty lunchbox and the $100 nap mat that has never seen sleep. Back to the grind. I made her an avocado sandwich which she didn’t eat (doesn’t she know they are hella EXPENSIVE?!), found her pink poodle stuffed animal to coordinate with her new first day of school-Paris-pink poodle dress (she just HAD to have everything match), and schlepped five minutes later than the schedule allowed to school.

My full of personality princess finally got her wish.

The sugar on top of it all?
Sammy’s in her class again!

Amelia is 8 Months

This little chicken is growing up! Not only can she sit up by herself, but she can crawl, eat plums, and flirt with the best of ‘em. Amelia is as delightful as the first time I met her, if not more, and it’s evident that her mommy and daddy are doing a FANTASTIC job. Speaking of Amelia’s ‘rents, it was wonderful to see Blanca + Brian. Building relationships like ours is one of my favorite things about my business and it makes me SMILE!

Elaine + Adam :: Hitched!

This wedding took me (and Bobby, as my lovely assistant) to the Outer Banks in North Carolina. Adam’s aunt, Eileen, hosted the wedding reception and all of the rest of their fabulous family members chipped in to pull off this feat. The weather was gorgeous, everyone looked stunning (Elaine and Adam were very Kennedy-esque!), and it was so nice to see these two lovebirds finally make it official!!!

Adam’s great great grandfather wrote a letter to Adam’s grandfather bequeathing him the diamond that is now in Elaine’s engagement ring.
Reading the letter, I completely got goosebumps and wished my family history was a little less choppy and had more tradition like this…
Oh well…maybe I can come up with a genius heirloom plan in my sleep. It’s got to start somewhere, right?

Millie Swims Again!

Today marked the end of Millie’s summer swim camp at Emler Swim School. We are going to miss going, as Millie has quickly become quite the Emler mascot, but I am sure we will be back next year for more.

I can’t recommend Emler enough. Mills has come along from being afraid to put her face in and drinking gallons to diving to the bottom of the pool to get diving rings and torpedos and working on her front breath. Amazing.

Ready to get her swim on.

Soooo ready and excited! Today she gets a ribbon.

Yeaaaaaah. This cartwheel thing into the water might need to be corrected, but it is hilarious for now.

Heather + Chad :: Hitched

After a short break from weddings (July was supposed to be my “vacation”, but it never works out as I plan for it to!), I am back and raring to go with a new one to show ya. Heather and Chad are the sweetest couple and I just absolutely adore their families and hilarious friends. It was a wonderful day…every single moment, and I hope these images transport Heather + Chad plus all of their guests right back to it.

First, Heather and the girls started the party off right at Haute Facade with my buddy, Kelly.
She’s only the BEST makeup artist/hair stylist in the DFW area!

Because I was there, I know that there was no pain really involved, but the flower girl’s aptitude for drama was nonetheless hilarious.

She loves it!

Loved Heather’s dress…the lace was gorgeous!

One flaw on the dress…there was no eye to put the hook into and Heather cute mom had to sew her in!

Love this shot. Nancy (the fabulous mom of the bride) had the most comfy slippers!

The dudes headed to the City Club to get ready for the festivities.

Kanon :: Unbridaled

Kanon completely embodies the made up word I love so much: “unbridaled”. She is a beautiful bohemian bride from Texas who currently lives in France with her fiance, Guillaume. Worldly and even otherworldly, Kanon is the free spirited type who can easily light up a room/make an instant friend/get out of trouble with a wink. She’s the type of chick most girls wish they could be. Effortlessly charming…that’s Kanon! (I’ve heard she gets it from BOTH of her parents!)

Kanon will marry Guillaume in a couple of weeks, but until then, enjoy these frames from a fun morning in Fort Worth during which we dodged a rainstorm, took over a hot dog stand, and jaywalked with the best of ‘em.

Ohmigawd. Are you kidding me? How gorgeous is she? How French is the image?

Whoever said that is LAME. I have some big fancy fantabulous secrets that I am hiding from you, and it is kind of a LOT of fun scheming. I am so evil, right?
