Second Shooting With a Mentor
Back in February, I had the great pleasure of working with the leader of the Foundation Workshop, Huy Nguyen of f8 Studio at a wedding. He is not only brilliant, but he gives so much of himself so that other photographers can grow and evolve under his tutelage. Plus, he’s funny as hell!
Because the event lasted from early morning till midnight, I was given a shift to cover the second part of the day. I missed out on a few early parts of the ceremony, but what I got to witness was truly amazing. It is so invigorating and inspiring to be around cultures, rituals, and traditions to which I am not accustomed. I turn into this hyper little kid in a candy store and want to learn about every last detail, and then photograph it! Here is what I captured.
The couple, Sujata and Anand, exited their ceremony…that’s about when I showed up for the day.

The two lovebirds were tied together by this pink scarf.

After the large ceremony, the families gathered for another small ceremony.
It was tight quarters in the hotel room, but everyone was so wonderfully warm and gracious and welcoming!

The groom’s sweet mother speaks lovingly to Sujata. This has to be one of my favorites.

Two ladies pass around coconuts, cashews, and almonds.

This guy was full of smiles the whole day!

After struggling to remove a traditional bracelet from Anand’s wrist, the couple rejoices!
This is one of my favorite photographs ever.

Everyone tried to figure out how to set the watch Sujata gave Anand…they were baffled for a good 15 minutes.

Sujata gets ready for the evening’s reception.

Another favorite is this image of Sujata’s mom helping her by cinching her skirt.
Looks like a tough job!

Sujata’s dad sees her all dolled up.

Sujata’s mom arranged accessories.

Stunning.

At the reception, everyone was dolled up!

Anand’s parents toast the couple.

Sujata’s beautiful cousin recalls childhood memories.

The newlyweds toast their families and guests.

The proud mamas celebrate a job well done.
