Stretching Myself :: The Messiest Fairy

Posted on March 7th, 2009 by Kate. Filed in A Life in the Day

Just about the time I finally find myself, it’s time to start testing myself again. (Yeah, I’m one of THOSE kind of people. Annoying, right?!) There’s no time for being comfortable, especially when you are an artist. Staying open, challenging my stubborn habits and tendencies, and releasing those demons in my mind who continue to tell me that I’m not a real artist was what yesterday afternoon was about.

The ingredients involved one napless child, a popsicle, and a playground.
The napless child dressed herself.

The assignment was to create a series of black and white 8×10 images to confront my proclivity to use eye-shocking amounts of color and my inclination to fill the frame.

Here’s what I came up with. I call this series “The Messiest Fairy”.
These 12 images will soon be up in my house, if I can challenge myself to get off my tail and hang them.
